The original house has been extended with two new purpose built wings, one wing has a 16 bedroom extension, the other 10 bedrooms. Both wings are over two floors.
The original house consists of the main entrance, to the left once you walk-in you have two well-proportioned lounges. Chairs and tables are positioned around the rooms, you can access the garden area through the end lounge. On the ground floor after the main entrance you have the kitchen then directly opposite you have the dining room this is large, light and airy. Dining tables and chairs are positioned to give the residents a feeling of being in a restaurant environment. There is access to the garden from this room, in the summer months we keep the patio doors open so residents can use this secure space.
The ground floor consists of nine single bedrooms, two bathrooms and four toilets and a hair dressing salon, once past the salon you have the new extension, this consists of six bedrooms, a large lounge area and a new dedicated laundry room. In the lounge you can access the beautiful and tranquil secure courtyard. All rooms and communal areas are furnished and decorated to a very high standard, tables and chairs are placed around the home for residents, families and friends to use. There are two drink stations positioned on the ground floor, families and friends visiting can help themselves to refreshments throughout their visit.
The home has three lifts so residents and families can access the first floor. If you prefer using the stairs then the main reception area has the stairs leading up to the first floor. Once upstairs you have directly in front of you a main bathroom, next to that you have another toilet and a staff toilet. Further down the corridor you have 22 well-appointed bedrooms, furnished and decorated to a very high standard. If you carry on down the corridor this brings you to the new extension that has 6 bedrooms and a bath and shower room. You can keep walking through the corridor and this will bring you to the other side that houses the 16 bedroom extension, in effect a complete loop leaving a courtyard in the middle of the building.
The 16 bedroom extension still uses the main entrance to The Firs, you then walk through the corridor into the lounge where you will find coffee and tea making facilities for family and friends to help themselves.
The lounge has 3 cafe style tables with chairs where families visiting can sit. Chairs are placed around the lounge so that residents can choose if they want to either watch TV, socialise and chat with staff, other residents or family and friends.
There are a further ten en-suite bedrooms, 1 assisted shower room, staff toilet, resident’s toilet and various storage space for bed linen etc.
Again, all decorated to a very high standard throughout. Furniture, fittings and decoration is picked with our residents in mind.
Dementia signage is used throughout The Firs to aid the residents and help them with a better quality of life.
The Firs recognises that, as each resident has his/her own individual preferences, there is a need for a variety of meeting places, either for television viewing, conversation, radio listening or peace and quiet.
The Firs provides four lounges and a separate dining area. Residents are encouraged to use these areas but are free to use their rooms as their own private space.
